No greeting, no mailbox
In the app, an unanswered call just ends. There is no business greeting for the caller.
The WhatsApp Business app has no business voicemail: you can’t record a greeting or catch messages when nobody answers. Since late 2025, WhatsApp has been rolling out a shortcut that lets the caller record a voice note after a missed call, but it depends on the caller and gives you no greeting or routing. Meta lists voicemail as a planned feature of its Business Calling API. To add a real voicemail today, connect the number to Dialaunch, where voicemail is one step of your call flow, next to an AI agent that answers before it’s needed.

WhatsApp’s missed-call voice note only helps if the caller chooses to leave one.
Dialaunch adds voicemail as a fallback, after the AI agent, the queue or opening hours.
Not in the sense businesses mean. When a call to your WhatsApp Business number goes unanswered, the caller hears ringing and then the call ends. There is no greeting telling them when you are open, no mailbox and no notification to the team that a message is waiting.
WhatsApp announced in December 2025 that callers can leave a short voice or video note when a call is missed, from a shortcut on the call screen. That is useful between friends. For a business, it relies on the caller noticing the option, and the note arrives in the chat of one phone with nothing to say who should deal with it.
Meta’s Business Calling API documentation lists voicemail in the chat as a planned feature. At the time of writing (October 2026), we did not find it documented as available.
A voicemail is a fallback, so it has to work every time and lead to an action.
Dialaunch connects your WhatsApp Business number through Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform and runs each call through a call flow you design. Voicemail is one of its steps. You can send callers there after hours, when the queue time limit runs out, or when a team is unavailable.
Voicemails land in the call history with the caller and the time, alongside every other call, so the team sees what is waiting. Missed calls have a call-back button: on WhatsApp, Meta requires the customer’s permission before you call, and Dialaunch sends the permission request if you don’t have it yet.
Most callers would rather get an answer than leave a message. Dialaunch is an AI agent for WhatsApp calls: it answers every call, day and night, in any language your customers speak. It confirms orders, books appointments, checks deliveries and creates callbacks from your own information, and hands to a person when the caller asks or is upset. Each call gets a summary and an outcome, so even the calls nobody on the team took are clear.
Put the AI agent first and keep voicemail as a last resort, or skip voicemail entirely. You decide where each step sits.
Use this list to set up a fallback that customers actually use.
Not a business voicemail with a greeting. WhatsApp has been rolling out a shortcut that lets callers leave a voice note after a missed call. Dialaunch adds a real voicemail step to your WhatsApp call flow.
In recent WhatsApp versions, the caller may see a shortcut to record a voice note after a missed call. It depends on their app and on them choosing to use it.
Not in the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app. With Dialaunch, your call flow plays your own greeting before voicemail, or the AI agent answers instead.

Answering them. Dialaunch’s AI agent picks up every WhatsApp call, does the task or creates a callback, and hands to your team when a person is needed.
